About The Knickerbocker Historical Society
The Knickerbocker Historical Society, Inc. was granted a provisional charter by the Board of Regents on behalf of the Education Department of the State of New York on June 27, 1958. The provisional charter was made permanent through the issuance of an Absolute Charter by the Board of Regents, on behalf of the Education Department of the State of New York, on June 28, 1963.
The Corporation is organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
The purposes for which this Corporation has been organized are to:
1. Restore, renovate, furnish, and preserve the Knickerbocker Mansion and the Witenagemot Oak or remnants thereof;
2) Assist in maintaining the Knickerbocker Family Cemetery, located on Knickerbocker Road, Schaghticoke, New York;
3) Preserve the history of the area surrounding the Knickerbocker Mansion;
4) Promote community awareness and appreciation of the history of the Knickerbocker Mansion and the surrounding area;
5) Develop and present educational programs concerning the history of the Knickerbocker Mansion and the surrounding area.
